A precision gear is a common mechanical component that transmits motion and power through continuous meshing of gears on the rim. It is widely used because of its smooth operation. Generally, the structure of precision gears includes gear teeth, tooth grooves, end faces, normal faces, addendum circles, tooth root circles, base circles, and index circles.
1. Gear teeth: It is the raised part of the gear used for meshing. These raised portions are generally arranged radially. The teeth are in contact with each other to ensure that the gears mesh.
2. Tooth slot: the distance between the teeth on the gear; the end face is mainly the plane of the cylindrical gear perpendicular to the axis of the gear.
3. End face: refers to the plane at both ends of the gear.
4. Normal plane: refers to the plane perpendicular to the gear tooth line.
5. Addendum circle: refers to the circle where the top of the tooth is located.
6. Root circle: refers to the circle where the groove bottom is located.
7. Base circle: The generating line of the involute is a pure rolling circle.
8. Index circle: It is the reference circle for calculating the geometric dimensions of the face gear.
